Backyard Tree Care Workshop
Do you have any trees in your backyard? Local experts are going to show you how to care for them on August 29!
The Truckee Meadows Community Forestry Coalition (Community Forestry Coalition) is hosting its inaugural Backyard Tree Care Workshop on Saturday, Aug. 29, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at West Street Market in Downtown Reno.
A “Community Forest” is a collection of trees growing in and around public and private land. While municipal government entities manage trees growing in parks and other public spaces, residents are responsible for caring for their own private trees. The workshop will consist of five half-hour seminars led by local experts, focusing on the various aspects of new and existing tree care important to all private tree owners in the Truckee Meadows.
At this free workshop, attendees will learn about new tree selection and planting, watering, Xeriscaping with trees, as well as general tree care practices, such as pruning and how to deal with pests. The last session, Ask an Arborist, will provide an opportunity for attendees to get answers to all their tree care questions, and the Coalition and its partners will give away coupons for consultations and services.
Representatives from Truckee Meadows Water Authority, the Cities of Reno and Sparks, Washoe County, NV Energy, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, the Nevada Landscape Association, as well as local arborists, garden shops and tree care specialists will be present to answer questions and distribute informational materials.
There will be a Historic Tree Walking Tour before the workshop led by Rod Haulenbeek of the City of Reno Urban Forestry Commission, at 8 a.m.
